It does indeed, atalanta - it's a well-known and constant hazard in the Thames. Not to be taken lightly. Just why they have never considered Manston Airport seriously for redevelopment is completely beyond me. It's got a massive runway, it's on road and rail links direct into London - and it's just been closed. Barking mad.

This was never on the cards, not in a million years ! Where the hell is the billions going to come from to build a brand new airport ?

They will be build another runway at Heathrow, without doubt !
By the way, I never knew the Standard published on a Sunday !

It was a devious plan to keep Boris away from Westminster!

The story's dateline is Friday 11th, though the website is 24/7.
Ah..that explains it then Jom. Boris will have to find a new toy to play with now won't he ? Perhaps a nice sitting Tory MP will fall on his sword soon and give Boris back a seat in Westminster. Like somewhere near the Scottish border perhaps, then he couldn't do the two jobs at once !
Lots Of Airports named after Famous people, but can you imagine an airport, called The Wurzell Gumage airport , Or the BJ airport , God help us.
The Worzel Gummidge airport totally ruined Scatterbrook Farm!
By the way, that "sunken wreck full of explosives" is not just a small hitch in the overall plan. It contains enough High Explosive to cause a not-very-small tsunami up and down the Thames which could easily flood the London tube system. If you want to know more, look up "The Richard Montgomery" - the name of the ship.

This story was featured on BBC today. Well done to Mary Creagh MP for managing to give the bird strike hazard a mention, during her interview. Boris has previously been dismissive about it, in the past. He doesn't give a t0ss about the ecological angle and clearly has never set eyes on a flock of estuary-loving waterfowl large enough to down an aircraft.

@boxtops

Manston closed? I was aware it had gone to cargo-only ops but will need to look into the background of the closure. Who - other than the locals - wanted it dead?

Oh, it seems this thread is 'Latest post'-proof?
