Hopefully now their situation is made more public a local age related charity may be able to gently talk them round. They seem to be very set in their ways and need help to get things resolved in the simplest way possible. So often, people don't have the time or patience to take a while and listen to someone's fears and allay them - let's hope they are put on the right path soon before we are looking at winter again.

Often with articles like this, there is so much we don't know - are there any mental health issues, confusion, literacy problems?

As I say hopefully some charitable organisation will seek them out to try hands on help.
They do need someone to help them with their banking - but that doesn't explain why they refused the emergency accommodation they were offered. Elderly people sometimes become very set in their ways, and I'm wondering if they just dug their heels in? Very sad.

's really hard to feel sympathy for people who have intentionally made themselves homeless

Do you say the same about immigrants?

We don't say to immigrants
''unless you can speak english and fill out the forms yourself, you are going to get *** all'

No, we bend over backwards to help them. I think we should afford our pensioners the same sort of help.

My point is perfectly valid.
well, if you say it is, then it must be :)
The article is strangely silent on what help is available to them. However, there is plenty.

You just cant help some people no matter how hard you try, I work with the elderly as a job. They can just be extremely stubborn sometimes. They just need to flex a little bit but they wont!

I have every sympathy, but like I said, there are some people that just dig their heels in and wont budge!
I bend over backwards to be flexible!
//see some on benefit don't sit in the pub all day drinking and smoking spliffs //

Perhaps as they were evicted for not paying rent they had been in the pub all day and smoking spliffs?
yeah I would like the back story -

I agree they seem to be able to receive money into an account but not pay it out !
hmm Black Cat I am not sure if they do have help available

they have failed to pay rent and have been made homeless
and as soon as they say they have the money but er havent disbursed the amount,

the faceless skool leaver bureaucrat is quite correct in saying they have made themselves intentionally homeless
there are a whole raft of charities that can help, along with the bank, benefits office, social services, welfare rights and so on and on and on
plus the council (who offered to help according to the article)

youngmafbog it looks like the have not been getting any money

they were evicted from their privately rented home in april and have
been sleeping rough since then

it is believed that after the pensions system changed they were told
they had to have their pensions paid electronically into a bank account
because they were unable to carry on collecting their money in their
usual way they were unable to pay their rent.
"The two pensioners were evicted from their privately-rented home in Charminster in April, and have been sleeping rough since then – relying on soup kitchens to eat – while an issue with their pension payments is resolved.

It is believed that after the pensions system changed, they were told they had to have their pensions paid electronically into a bank account. Because they were unable to carry on collecting their money in their usual way, they were unable to pay their rent."

Put simply these pensioners are being bullied. From what I can gather their (Their) pension has been stopped.
Tow the line or suffer the consequences. This old couple have been chewed up and spat out by the wheels of commerce.
They are probably as frightened of internet banking as I would be lion taming.
They are also probably feeling embarrassed and scared of being looked upon as a burden on society.

Well that's my take on it but some of you must know more about the case than me.
