Shame......nice guy. Mr &Mrs sqad met him and his wife (can't remember her name) on Concorde during a flight to Miami. He was a pilot also and was invited into the cockpit.

As a young soldier in the 80's Radio 1 DJ's were invariably part of service life, as that was invariably what we always listened to.
For some inexplicable reason whilst serving in N. Ireland I always recall Mike Smith playing Spandau Ballet's 'True' twice on his morning show because he liked it so much.

Funny how some minor events stick in your mind.

As I said, always seemed a nice fella, sadly taken so young.

I recall he was in a helicopter crash and took a long time to recuperate.

Also he was part of the Edmonds hosted, ill fated 'The Late Late Breakfast Show', in which Michael Lush was killed. :(

I remember the helicopter crash. Both he and Sarah Greene were badly injured.
