The US can bomb whatever wherever, they always have done.
The Yazdis are the remains of the Zoroastrians ( you know Freddie mercury and all that - the others are Parsis ) - who worshipped the Sun

Mazda - the only Zoroastrian word in English - and are looked on as devil worshippers ( much worse than Christians that they arennt keen on them either )

and Christ if you believe in something it makes you wanna defend it or this happens - displacement and starvation

Who else are going to protect these people ? They are dying on the side of a mountain, from hunger and thirst. Its either that or the ISIS forces will slaughter them all.

So, its a simple choice. Do we stand around and let ISIS commit these atrocities, or do we actually do something ?
Whist I agree that food, medical supplies and water etc, should be dropped to help these people, anything else such as military action against Isis should be addressed by the Iraqi government and the UN.
yeah he's right, you cannot allow these loonies to slaughter these people because they use the wrong book of fairy tales. Though I do worry where it will lead, I mean he cannot protect them forever, they need the Iraqi governement to put it's house in order somehow, though I know they have their hands full at the moment.
Yea, aog, we and the Americans left the Iraqi government is such a stable position didn't we? Well able to deal with this sort of thing.

I don't think he had a choice, to be honest, but what he's storing up in terms of revenge attacks against US interests elsewhere in the region is another matter.

Well what would have been your choice SJP, to have left Saddam to continue to massacre certain ones or for the UK and the US to still remain there?

Well, an exit strategy before going in would have been a good idea. But that would have taken time and one of the purposes of that war was to ensure George W won the 2004 election.

We hear so much of 'exit strategies', almost as much as 'it's easy to be wise after the event'.
Glad I don't have to make this decision but this seems like genocide to me. On balance I think Obama is right as there is no chance of the Iraqi government helping them and if America doesn't who else will save these Christians? However, the consequences of doing so hardly bears thinking about.
Do you think he is right Naomi?
Would this be the same US/Obama who have been severely castigated in supporting/supplying Israel recently on AB.Some of you really are quite selective on the issues of who you want killed or should I say hypocritical?
Yes.I believe the US should step in with air strikes and wipe ISIS off the earth. These Yazdis,Parsis and Kurds must be protected just because they practise their harmless and ancient religion.Yes.ISIS are carrying out an ethnic cleansing programme and must be stopped.BUT people.Be careful what you wish for!! I have recently mentioned the cowardly terrorist tactic of Hamas of using innocents as a human shield.Yes the UN on the ground in Gaza have stated, since the recent cease fire, that Hamas did set up rocket and Mortar sites in the UN schools,Used hospitals as Hamas war cabinet rooms, used hotels as rocket launching sites(indian TV footage)and used Mosques as weapon storeage facilities. That is and always has been the Islamic terrorist tactic. Now ISIS have a sniff that air strikes are on there way you can bet, instead of torturing, beheading and raping anyone of a different religion to their evil interpretation of Islam they will be herding them into Mosul and other ISIS enclaves and use them as shields also. There is likely to be,again, a lot of innocent casualties in order to try and protect the innocent. That happens when a terrorist war is fought. Please don't let some of you bleeding heart, hand wringing leftie armchair strategists start bleating about US war crimes committed when they commence air stikes and,God forbid, innocent casualties occur. It could well happen but should and must be attempted to preserve these people and their religion. After the aim is accomplished bring on the air drops of water and other much needed aid if it is'nt too late.
Is Obama Right To Authorise Air Strikes ...
------------------
Absolutely. And the fight against ISIS ought to be prosecuted and executed with extreme prejudice.
Might is always right.
In this instance I think Obama is right and I hope ISIS get blown off the face of the earth. The sight of an old lady using a zimmer frame struggling up a mountain, little children bewildered and frightened ,people dying because they have no food or water should be enough for any decent minded human being to say --'enough is enough'. I don't care what creed, religion ,colour or nationality they are - They need help .!

Keyplus, //Might is always right.//

But up until now the might has come from ISIS - and they are not right.

Ladybirder, //Do you think he is right Naomi?//

Yes, I do. How much does the world tolerate before interceding? These people are stark raving mad and enough is enough. Islamic fundamentalists? Quite frankly, at this moment, I would happily drop a bomb on the lot of them. They bring nothing with them but misery.
So, interfaith pluralism isn't your cup of tea?

It isn't theirs, that's for sure.
A bit late to the party maybe but welcome nonetheless.
Once they have the situation under control (NOT before Christmas) maybe they can have a word with the cowardly *** with a penchant for sunglasses and a deadly stare but no guts. The ones they trained and equipped that is.
keyplus90 doesn't like it when the US is implored to step in and sort glaring atrocities that can only be addressed by superior firepower.

They do what the UN cannot and will not ever be able to do - its job.
Ain't that the truth.

Glad to get your point of view Naomi. I can go to bed now:-) Night.
