It's not "her verdict" to give, Mikey. Judge Masipa, with the help of two assessors, who decide.

Then with two helpers, she shouldn't need another 34 weeks to make a decision. This trial has been going on for months.
34 weeks??

It has always been the case mikey, that it would take a while, probably a few weeks, after the closing statements.
It'll be Oscar's 9/11
Do you agree with the "non jury" system that they have in SA? It seems strange to me, even though we had the Diplock Courts in Northern Ireland. That was because of the Troubles at that time.
On the plus side, I have something to look forward to for my birthday...

Well, I suppose you are all right. But this flipping trial has been going on for so long, it just smacks of dragging things out to have to wait until September. Are we all sure that its not just the greedy lawyers wanting to make even more money ?
It does seem to have gone on forever but the judicial wheels tend to grind slowly.I've followed plenty of cases in Ireland where judgment is 'reserved' and it can be many weeks before the judge announces his/her verdict. On the subject of Diplock Courts, the last high profile case I can recall was the 2009 Massereene Barracks case. One defendant was acquitted and the other convicted. However,he won his appeal!
I don't really understand why people care about this trial.
Neither do I.

That's it exactly db. I knew who he was, had seen his name in the papers and that he was a champion athlete. But a friend of mine who follows athletics closely told me that OP was not a nice person and gave a string of instances to prove it. So I have been glued to the trial and listened to the evidence and can't wait to hear the result. I can't read that judge at all; she'd make a brilliant poker player.
