One other thing, I am pretty sure that the verbal or written jism of a bunch of six perceived pinkie Muslims will not deter the radical wing in this country, or elsewhere, of joining up with IS in Syria and Iraq etc, or wherever they want them to do so.
Well said DTC, how right you are.
/// More to the point, why do the British Government stand idlly by while IS carve out a caliphate? ///
IS may call it a caliphate but the reality is that they are a bunch of over-armed madmen on a killing spree, or is that what a caliphate is?
v-e; That is very sad reading. It really makes one wonder how much some Muslims understand Islam. If a fatwa is simply an opinion issued by an Imam - who then becomes a Mufti - isn't the 'issuing' of death threats outside of their remit I wonder.
There are also so many other scientific errors in the Koran (which is "God's word")
http://wikiislam.net/wiki/Scientific_Errors_in_the_Quran
I can see the only way for some to justify their position is to start issuing death threats in desperation.
Ah but jomifl, madmen can't help it....these scum know what they are doing and want to rule the world! Kill them all and I don't like violence!!! Something HAS to be done to save the innocents and this country has got to get its act together....but we are too damned soft fgs! Why is this country afraid of offending the rest of the world?
Khandro, //It really makes one wonder how much some Muslims understand Islam. //

What on earth can you mean? To them, this is Islam.
In the lecture at the Masjid al-Tawhid mosque in Leyton Dr Hasan – whose erudite and liberal views are often expressed in the media - outlined why Darwin's theory and Islam were in harmony. But his opinions weren't well received by some of the audience with a vocal MINORITY [my emphasis] denouncing Hasan and accusing him of "blasphemy"
At the time Hasan dismissed his critics as "fanatics" and told the Independent: "One man came up to me during the lecture and said 'You are an apostate and should be killed'...
naomi; //To them, this is Islam.// I think that should be to 'him', and he is of course wrong, (and deranged) None of the Muslims I have met would even dream of such a thing. Do you know any who would?

and you lived to tell the tale, naomi.....my!
They wouldn't dare, DT! ;o)
Khandro, I'm curious. Why do you think he's deranged?
My greatest fear is that the muslim community do not know the strength of the indigenous people when their backs are to the wall, another 7/7 will be the worst scenario for islam throughout the western world.
Yes, we've all seen the Stacey Dooley film - tiny group of nutters (about 100, if I remember) out of a population of 30,000 Muslims.
Only just read the Sam Harris e-mail which arrived earlier this afternoon. Conbtains this link:

Talking of Sam Harris, where's LazyGun?
Please save this thread for your future ref.
Khandro, So they’re nutters, and Doctor Husan is deranged. Sounds a little paranoid to me. Unless you know something the rest of us don’t, as far as I'm aware Stacey Dooley is not connected to Dr Hasan. (You clearly missed the bit where she adopted a burka and encountered discrimination).

I repeat, have you ever been to Leyton – and I ask again, why do you think Dr Hasan is deranged?

Not wishing to divert the thread, but what happens if a person subject to a fatwa makes a public apology and admits to being wrong?

There would surely always be people who wouldn't accept it even if religious scholars did? Ultimately, can a serious fatwa ever be lifted?
V_E, I'm not sure why you're aligning LazyGun with Sam Harris - I don't recall him being a particularly vocal in that area - but as for LG's whereabouts, I can only assume he's taken the same road as several other intelligent contributors.

ag, I think it can be lifted - but only if the accused repents. Whether or not everyone accepts that is debateable.
Naomi - I suppose that's the thing about opinions! Everyone has one...
