More Incompetence From Our Heavy Handed Police Force ?

Yes, I know the trendy liberal term is Police Service but they seem to be less and less a service and trending very much towards a force.
How uncontrollable are Plod? My experiences of them are poor, showing the majority to be incompetent and heavy handed just as recent high profile cases are showing.

The BBC found out Cliff was being investigated, and were investigating the story themselves. The poluce could have got an injunction to stop reports, but there has to be proper justification for that.
All the BBC reported was that police had searched the stars house while investigating an historic claim of abuse.
The Police did their job, and the BBC did theirs. I do not understand what the problem is? What is the alternative, to ban reporting of all police investigations?

// Gromit, one of your maters seems to think differently:
//to which Mr Vaz replied it showed "a gross lack of competence".//
I completely agree with Gromit over this, why should we know about this just because it happens to be about Cliff Richards.
And who should take any notice of what Mr Vaz says with his record?

She walked away with £37,000
Passages that the Guardian report chose to leave out.
/// Scotland Yard faced a barrage of negative media coverage over the case in July, and the panel found that, while the force did not name Pc Howard, a draft press statement was altered to include more detail about her three arrests linked to a domestic dispute with her estranged husband. ///
/// Details of her arrests emerged after her tribunal victory. She was held twice by Sussex Police - once last year and once in January this year - and a file is currently with prosecutors who are considering whether to bring charges. ///
/// Ms Howard was also arrested by Scotland Yard for alleged asault in April this year, but has since been told that she will face no further action. ///
Now that is a surprise.
