Ebola a virus with no recognised treatment, no readily available tested vaccine, a mortality rate of over 50% for victims and an uncontrolled outbreak from which these students have traveled..............a sensible precaution one would have thought.

Yes. I remember when the SARS outbreak was on the NZ govt warned Asian students not to go home for the holidays and if they did they would either not be allowed back in or would be held in quarantine for so long. All movement to and from the affected countries should be halted.
The UK will the last place to protect it's population using Quarantine.
