Much has been reported regarding the forthcoming referendum on Scotland's independence, but the questions that has not been asked are "why is Salmond's allowed to carry out a referendum"?

Why is the rest of the UK allowing Scotland to breakaway, so easily?

And does this not amount to treason?

(Violation of allegiance toward one's country or sovereign.)

I am not the apostrophe police but you are overusing yours.

As for your serious answer - I will leave that to the others.

As a Scot my vote will be NO - I hope that there is no breakaway. I am proud that I am Scottish but we do not 'need' to be a totally independent country.

The use of 'allowed' and 'allowing' are incorrect so your question is invalid. Salmond isn't 'allowed' to have a referendum, it's the Scottish parliaments right. We are not 'allowing' Scotland to break away (your assumption that they are is currently also incorrect by the way) it is their right to decide whether to do so.
This might answer the question ::::

"Following an agreement between the Scottish and the United Kingdom governments, the Scottish independence Referendum Bill, setting out the arrangements for this referendum, was put forward on 21 March 2013"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_independence_referendum,_2014
Scotland has its own Parliament.

The SNP has a majority, and have decided to hold a referendum.

It's called democracy - what's your problem with it?
If you have sufficient dissent then allowing a referendum is a good way of settling an issue for years to come.

We should have many more and hopefully will when the tech has caught up and we can vote on issues at home securely.
A perfectly legitimate party, the Scottish National Party (the clue is in the name) put seeking Indepence for Scotland in their manifesto in 2007.

At the 2011 Scottish election, the SNP won the election, so they had a mandate for the Scottish people to seek Indepenence.

The British Government insisted on a referendum to clarify that Independence is what the majority of Scots want.

Salmond as leader of the SNP and of the Scottish Assembly is entirely within his rights to take this course. It is not one man leading this, he is leader of a Party with many members, who could get rid of him if he was not doing what they wanted. And he is leader of the Scottish Parliament, fairly elected.

No it is not treason. Presumably you mean to the Queen. In all probability the Scots will retain the Queen just as Canada and Australia do. They will be a member of her Commonwealth. Which is why HMQ is staying out of the Yes/No debate. She is looking at the longer picture.
Well dome Gromit...of course its not treason ! Its pretty daft but hardly a hanging offence to want to break away from the rest of the UK. But Liz is said not to be at all happy with the prospect...maybe it will be Sandringham for the summer hols as well as the winter hols in the future !
I also find it odd that English Nationalists are very anti Salmond.

You have the same aims for your respective countries, so you should be supporting him.

If you want an English Parliament, and don't want Scottish MPs having a say on English affairs, then you must support the Scots want to leave (if they indeed decide that is what they want).
Once again, Salomnd is the figurehead for the SNP - it's not his decision alone.
// so easily //

The Scottish National Party started this EIGHTY years ago.
Yeah - lets all march on Holyrood and hang them all !

Why, am I overusing my allocation? So sorry.
No no please no grammatical picking ( questions plural when only one question is asked ) no really I would rather read about snake oil - sorry whatever it is Salmond is peddling.
I think were just a bit puzzled as to why you put an apostrophe and an 's' after Salmond. Twice.
Strictly speaking, AOG, you didn't need the apostrophe in the heading at all :-)
treason................ye gods,:)

There are some on here that seem to hold an entirely different attitude when it comes to matters in the Ukraine.
Ah, the old 'moving the goalposts' tactic, I see.

I was unaware that we had an English Nationalist party, and if we had it would most likely be called a racist party etc etc.

The difference being the Scots have long had their own Parliament whereas the English have not
