I put this question for discussion because he seems to me to be whipping up a lot of anti-English feeling.

Derek I have posted this before and it's worth repeating. SCOTTISH PEOPLE DO NOT HATE ENGLISH PEOPLE.
Nobody is slapping anybody in the face. Salmond doesn't hate the English. He simply believes that Scotland should be allowed to govern itself. That's it. No more, no less.

Anne, I haven't said that Scottish people hate the English and I'm sure they don't, but I do believe that A,S. dislikes the English and his rhetoric seems to show. Now don't ask me for a link, but when asked by a BBC correspondent about his refusal to pay Scotland's share of the national debt, A.S. replied, "What are they ( the English) going to do, invade us ?" That seems inflammatory to me.
As Salmond wants Scotland to break away from England (and wales and NI) isn't it inevitable that he has to criticise is English? That's not racists it's just a fact of the situation. It's akin to saying chamberlin was racist because he declared war on Germany.
derekpara....Salmond's remarks were in response to what may be the reaction should Westminster not give Scotland its rightful share (around 10%) of the Bank of England.

However, I would note, wharton, is that he is too shrewd to be engaged in direct remarks, usually - he just leaves it to his so-called cohorts, wit the verbal assaults on Farage and others. It is certainly a downside of this campaign and not even tongue-in-cheek like a lot of banter on here and does the SNP no favours at all, indeed the perception of the Scots at large.

Even you clueless DTCwordfan ?

45 responses and not one acknowledging that it is the *Parliament in London* that he refers to, not the Welsh, Northern Ireland or English people.

Just shows the power of the media works more effectively than the thinking ability of the indoctrinated majority.
My friend lived in Cumbernauld from the age of 6 - 18
She said they had to learn a Scottish accent very quickly as she was bullied relentlessly
She also said the passion with which the scots hated the English was vitriolic.
ric-ror, how much of that was truly anti-English, and how much of it was because she was just different? kids, regardless of who or where they are, are cruel b@stards and will pick on the kid who doesn't conform.
Yes.
I will be voting Yes on Thursday. I am not a racist, xenophobe or any other name that is being bandied about by Mikey and his ilk. I simply want Scotland to be governed by those who have Scotland's interests at heart. Whatever the outcome of the vote I will abide by that - it's what democracy is all about. Having said that, at the moment we are ruled by the Tories from Westminster despite have only one Conservative MP in Scotland...........

Who do you believe that to be Maggie?
Zacs, I believe Alex Salmond and the SNPs are a vehicle towards independence. In some ways if the YES votes win then their job will be done and in 2016 will be followed by a free Scottish election at which time we will vote for the party we want to be in power. It may be son of SNP, Labour, Lib Dem or whoever, but certainly not the tories.
Maggie. I underestimated you. I bow to your consistency. ;-)
