This story has been "bubbling" away for a few months, since he was first arrested. We as a nation still can't seem to get our heads around the concept of child abuse and its existence in every walk of life. New cases are appearing in the Press on a daily basis.
Our prisons will soon be overflowing with paedophiles, not burglars and thieves.

Douglas...but will it stop this sort of thing occurring again ? I am concerned that children are still being abused all over Britain on a daily basis. Hospitals should be places of safety but perhaps that is no longer the case, and we should react accordingly.
I have a friend who is a choirmaster in a local Church, and he now makes sure he is chaperoned by one of the kids parents, every time he has choir practise. Maybe Hospitals should consider doing the same ?

>>Are our children no longer safe from anyone these days?
AOG, don't be so naïve.
It has always been going on, just never reported before.
One of my elderly female relatives (now dead) said she was molested about 75 years ago when she was 5 by an "uncle" so it is nothing new.
I am sure it has been going on all through history, just not reported.

Perhaps we shouldn't be shocked Smowball. This sort of thing is being exposed almost every day in the Press.
Interesting documentary on Radio 4 tomorrow night ( Tuesday)
http:// www.bbc .co.uk/ program mes/b04 grs67
After having read Simon Danczuk's Book about Cyril Smith, I am no longer shocked or surprised anymore, but the program should be illuminating for those who have yet to realise how prevalent sexual abuse of young boys is.
A crucial quote from the program ::::
"Alan Collins, a specialist child abuse lawyer representing some of the men who're suing Rochdale Council over abuse at Know View, believes things would have been different had Cyril Smith been prosecuted and convicted: "That would have sent a clear message through Rochdale and much further afield that there was clearly a problem and that problem would not have been so easy to brush away. I think that had a very long tail and that that tail continued right up until recent times."
