The SNP and it's followers claim to "want independence" and yet they also say that they want to part of the EEC. Surely if they become members of the EEC they will have to join on Europe's terms and not their own. What kind of independence is that
2sp is wrong actually it's just independence from Westminster..... however putting all our eggs in the EU basket and joining an even bigger bunch of crooks and shysters is much more acceptable...... No thanks!!
Scotland might have a problem belonging to the EEC. It hasn't existed since the Maastricht Treaty came into force 21 years ago!
;-)
In practice, an independent Scotland might well be refused EU membership but could possibly become a member of the EEA (as, for example, Norway has) or remain outside both the EU and the EEA but still participate in the single market (as Switzerland does).

I think the SNP are bit like my dog, he chases cars but I don't think he's given any thought about what he's going to do when he catches one. Similarly Salmond and co have an - it'll be ok- attitude to everything. The fact is if they leave the UK they will be outside the EU and will find it very difficult to qualify to get in. To answer the question, it's the English they hate so they'll call it independence even if they do get into the EU. Fortunately I think their public are going to save them fom themselves.
TTT that's a particularly unpleasant statement to make, the RELEVANT point is that people want away from the governance of Westminster rather than England
What also puzzles me is the talk of wanting "Freedom". Apart from the obvious emotional references to Mel Gibson, can anyone explain to me in what way the SNP thinks Scotland is not free?
This is one of those issues that's puzzled me for a while -- why is Europe so much better than Westminster? At any rate it surely calls the slogan "Scotland's future in Scotland's hands" into question, even more so than it already was.
The EU view is that the likes of Spain will block any application as the Scots presence would encourage Catalonia and the Basques to separate - ditto the French have concerns ré the latter - and also Belgium as to their 3 way spilt.
This is all about the SNP getting their own way, for the first time in their history they have a remit to do what they like because of the rank ineptitude of the rest of the parties in Scotland. It's immaterial what happens afetrwards because they don't know, if it's a yes vote then they have to turn the wish list that was the White Paper into some kind of reality.... it's all posturing and Alex salmond being the biggest fish he can be in the smallest pond possible
It's slug Salmond's very twisted idea of Utopia. People think they're voting for independence but what they're going to get is isolation and exclusion. Very sad .
Salmond has not given ANY thought to the reality of a yes vote. He's given no thought to the 19h of Sept in the event of a yes vote. He cares ONLY for the yes vote on the 18th. By then, it'll all be too late to turn back. PLEASE, my fellow Scots, PLEASE don't let this happen. If you love Scotland, vote NO !! If you hate Scotland and want to see it sold down the river of no return, vote yes.
