Surely that only works if one has a privileged viewing site, and inclusive champers & caviare. Blooming politicians, can't resist showing their credentials off on how they rip the public off, even when the public are those funding the show anyway. Double bubble must receive the most brownie points from their peers.

Or Bollinger boy....
The touts will be fast...they'll go like a rocket!
This is being introduced because of the huge crowd which attended the last event. How will this stop the crowds from coming, will the police be out saying if you haven't a ticket you mustn't look up?

I remember when we had a national firework service and they were free evey Nov.5th. :o)
Perhaps those that don't want to watch it won't have to pay for it.

Why should I pay for fireworks in London when I can't see them, even from Brown Willy, the highest point on Bodmin Moor?
I'm colour blind. Can I get a discount? Perhaps if I look with only one eye?
I was setting off some fireworks in my garden last night when my Muslim neighbours came round complaining about the explosions.

Effing hypocrites!

Not loud enough I expect DT.

I think it would be quite comical if everyone went and watched from outside the pay zone barriers and the pay zone was left empty.
"Why should I pay for fireworks in London when I can't see them, even from Brown Willy, the highest point on Bodmin Moor? "

You're not funding them, DT. It is funded by sponsors and the GLA. Last year the GLA stumped up £1.5m for this "free" show so the 100,000 tickets at a tenner won't cover it. This show is a ridiculous idea held in a totally unsuitable environment. Best thing would be to knock it on the head entirely.

Irony perhaps, New Judge?
Edinburgh charges a fortune just to go into the street for New Years Eve and also for some other fireworks events. How can they charge if you stand outside the charging area and watch?
More bang for your buck?
They are already privatised, it isn't a special state department that puts them on, it is a private pyrotechnics firm.

/// If they are doing this for "safety" reasons perhaps they'll also do it for the Notting Hill carnival. ///

Along with an intensive stop and search programme.

Lights blue touch paper and stands well back.
