Andy, I agree, Ed Miliband is unelectable. However, I just heard a political commentator on television say that Gordon Brown is being primed for a come-back into the forefront of politics. Saints preserve us!! Tell me it's not so!!

jno, that's silly. We know all governments tax and spend - they have to - but what they tax, how much they tax, and how they spend it varies enormously.

The mansion tax is a bit daft, as the mansion buying money will be spent on things that aren't mansions, such as chateaux, fincas or schlosses. Much better to raise income tax so that all the rich pay rather than just those with property in london.

'Tax and overspend' will continue whoever is elected, because 'tax and spend within your means' would see the economy collapse and 'increase taxes' would have the 'your not cutting my Standard of Living!!' hypocrites in a frenzy - they are quite willing to continue enjoying a debt dependent Standard of Living.

The election will not be decided on Miliband's speech, it will be long forgotten next May. It will be decided on how many people feel better off than they did in 2010. I suspect that not enough people are better off. However, Labour need to look electable, and at the moment, the look far from it.
