Did you see this program about Polygamy on C4 last night? I thought we had a law here saying "You can not have two wife's at one time" how the hell do they get away with this? is it a case of "Do Not Upset Them? another example of this weak and previous Governments.
anyone, you me the postman can have a polygamus religious marriage TWR just not one recognised by law- it's nothing personal to people 'coming here' anyone can do it, and people's private lives are their own damned business tbh.
TWR, It’s nothing to do with any government. Marriages, multiple or otherwise, conducted in Islamic ceremonies in this country are not recognised because they are not legal, but there's no law to say that men can't live with more than one woman.
Ah, but is it a marriage if it is not recognised by the law ? What is the criteria ? Is your local priest saying it's ok, enough ? That said when they change the definition to allow same gender couples to claim they are married maybe the phrase doesn't mean anything any more, save in the legal sense. Anyway I don't believe it should matter how many spouses you have as long as it is all mutually desired by the adults involved. And it isn't a con to get more benefits.
And one of them has a ton of kids and him and the "wives" are all claiming benefits and he sends money out of the country to wherever it was to pay for the one he has overseas.....ar
e
we *** crazy in this country or what ?
I didn't say it was alright or acceptable but these polygamous men are no more married to their multiple wives than Joe Bloggs is married to the many woman who have given birth to his children.
Part of the problem being, that there are communities in the UK at present who disregard legal marriage for 'religious' marriages. As discussed above, the issue is that when push comes to shove there's no legal recognition of a common-law spouse, and I know women who have been done out of money and homes as a result with no comebacks.

it seems vast numbers of people in the country, not just "communities", now disregard legal marriage; so the ones you refer to are fitting in with local culture. Marriage just isn't a vital element of British life any more. (*Weddings*, that's another matter.)
