Prosecution Miranda Moore QC first read an impact statement from the woman indecently assaulted by DLT in mid 90s...
Prosecution says victim not seeking compensation or legal costs...
Defence said that DLT and wife had to sell house to pay to defend himself...
Defence then addressed judge about possible starting points for sentence. "This single offence...does not cross custody threshold"...Defence said he thinks a "conditional discharge" would be most appropriate sentence. Not a fine.
I wonder if some of these cases shouldn't fall under the remit of 'Restorative Justice'? In that way, the accused could meet the accuser, acknowledge his/her offences and between them decided what would be a 'fair' outcome, rather than going down the route of lengthy, costly trials..... I know that there are a great many serious cases where a trial is the only...
So a great many is now some, nice back-tracking. Yes, you're entitled to your offensive opinion and I'm entitled to point out what a nasty minded ????, you are.
As I said before we oldies belonged to the whistles from the builders, the odd groping and many years ago when I first was learning the piano - first lesson - music teacher was in his parlour teaching me - his wife was in the front room and after a few seconds he grabbed my knee. Did he lose his house - no - and many more like him didn't.
jenny, he didn't lose his house because of a grope. He had to sell up to pay for his defence when he was assaulted someone. If he had pled guilty in the first place, he may still have his house.
2sp - I am aware of the case but I do think it was an unnecessary case. Really I do - considering the very lenient sentences that murderers get or don't get for that matter and sometimes whilst "inside" can be awarded compensation for a variety of issues. But that's another story for another day.
I hope the ones who were never reported or caught are sleeping a little less at night worrying if there will be a knock on their door.
And maybe we can now raise a generation of men (and women - they do grope too!), that realise that groping or any kind of unwanted touching isn't acceptable.
If they were never caught, what can be done about them?
That's why these cases are coming forwards now, because (primarily) women have said, "a bad thing happened to me and xxxx was responsible and I don't think he/she should get away with it any longer".
lets not forget that hes got off lightly here, and thats an understatement and he knows it.
hes done a lot more and worse they just couldnt prove it in court, mainly becasue of the historical nature of the offences....The Great Escape.......
well if a grown woman in that industry expects to get through her career without some idiot copping a feel ..she is deluded ..and if she did not have the mettle to deal with him at the time then why has this gone so far...I have had to deal with this scenario more than a few times...a knee in the groin and quick slap across the face berated loudly..does not happen again from same source..or anyone who sees it..waste of everyone's time and money..especially his !
