Fake Bomb Detectors

We have discussed this on here before. This couple have been found guilty and are amongst the last to be tried for this offence. But I still don't see how they could have sold 100,000's of these completely fake empty plastic things, to so many people around the globe. Even a simple test would have shown them to be useless. mikey: I always say the same thing...didn't anyone buying them have them evaluated first? Crazy!

All anybody had to do was to open one up with a stanley knife and it would have become immediately obvious that this was a scam. But I understand that they, or something similar is still being used in a security sense somewhere in the world, which is horrifying.

Panorama covered this story 5 years or so ago.

As an analysis of how government procurement processes can go wrong, it was a 'perfect storm'.

There was one (repeat ONE) demonstration of the device, to impress the bigwigs (of each respective country); orders were placed and every civil servant down the line was basically powerless to question higher authority, once they had personally twigged that it was a scam.

The export orders were a huge moneyspinner, so the DTi were particularly keen for the story not to get out.
