56% Of Britons Want To Stay In The Eu!!
...with just 36% saying they want out.
Why do you think this is?
Could it be that the rise of UKIP has actually galvanised the waverers?
Could this be the real voice of the 'silent majority'?
With the rise and evident popularity of UKIP, these figures make absolutely no sense...!
Anyone got an idea?
Because I for one am flummoxed
(...and admittedly, quietly/childishly giggling to myself in anticipation of the forthcoming answers).

Considering that the right wing gutter press have been campaigning against the EU for decades the poll result is quite surprising and has restored my oft lagging confidence in the intellect of the British public. Perhaps the gutter press readers are only interested in celeboobs and nipslips and don't actually read the papers that they buy

these figures go up and down like a yoyo, though I don't think I've ever seen the Outs that low before. It does seem clear that the population is divided and volatile; and I don't think a 51-49 vote ought to be enough to change the status quo. I'd say the same for any major constitutional issue.
As you say, the pollsters do pretty well with their sampling; it doesn't matter that I, or umpteen million more, haven't been asked.

Opinion polls consistently show a majority in favour of staying in the EU, though the margin is usually closer.
On the face of it it seems odd, given the fuss about the EU that is consistently made by so many, apparently (especially here)
I suspect it tells us that if you canvass a representative section of the electorate - which presumably they do, as opposed merely to Daily Mail journalists, residents of Clacton etc etc, that you get a different perspective.
It should be a warning to Cameron and the Conservatives that their current pandering to UKIP may in the long term be disastrous for them, as they risk losing their appeal to some of those mainstream voters who are not, as it happens, UKIP fodder.

The 75 referendum was a political con, staged by Harold Wilson. The 'renegotiation' of terms was merely cosmetic. It was planned to persuade voters to vote Labour in 1974. Labour, who until they found themselves in opposition, were in favour of the EEC, until they realised that to oppose it represented the best way of getting rid of Heath's government, which they duly did. Once Heath was out of the way they could revert to their former position. Perhaps Ed would like to do one of his polls on this matter, purely to test the water amongst ABers.
UKIP's stategy is quite clear. Get themselves onto the News every day until people think that they are a mainstream party - not just another Monster Raving Loony Party.

You're clearly missing the mood of the 'ordinary man in the street' and a large portion of the electorate with you insular and dismissive views. Wake up and take a look at what's going on around you, the political landscape is changing beyond all expectation and prediction.
