What the NHS need to do is slim down the grossly overstaffed and inefficient Management structure. Can't see Ed doing that though; too many labour votes, and the Tories seem toothless to tackle the problem whist shacked to the liberals at the moment.
So anyone got any ideas how we find the 8bn?

The NHS spends a few million a year on interpreters fees for patients who claim to have a right of stay in this country and entitlement to the NHS. If they can't be bothered to learn the language of the country they proclaim to belong to then they must pay their own interpreter or bring a family member who does speak English. No speaka da English then NO treatment.
Retro...have you thought what the NHS would be like if it wasn't for the non-British that staff it ? The NHS would cease to function overnight without them.
On another linked topic, it is now recognised that the care of the elderly, including dementia sufferers, stands to swamp the NHS in the very near future. Does anyone know how the the NHS is going to cope in the future, unless we inject substantially more funds into it ? This is a non-party political issue...even the Tories are pledged to support the NHS.
So where is the extra funding going to come from ?

What relevance does the amount of non-British staff in the NHS have to do with interpreters fees ? The NHS doesn't hire interpreters for their staff. It is for patients, who should fund their own interpreters, which costs millions a year. That should not be allowed. My wife is a fluent Spanish speaking endoscopy nurse who has many times in her career had to interpret for non English speaking patients but does she get £200 a pop for each patient she interprets for? If you were admitted to Marbella General you would have to arrange your own interpreter! It should be stopped here also.
Stop Overs Sea's Aid, Paying out big bonus's to the likes of Worthless bosses, Starbucks, Google, Facebook, Amazon tax avoidance Scheme's, instead of NHS Private Owed car parks, let the hospital run the can parks, how the hell does the car par belong to a contractor when the land was built for a hospital, return Private company's back to where they were, People coming into the UK to pay no matter where they are from, why the hell am I wasting my breath, *** all will be done.
dave50...I listened to the new NHS Boss being interviewed this morning on the Today Program and he specifically ruled out a root and branch reorg. of the time you are alluding to. I expect the interview is still available on line somewhere if you missed it. It made very interesting listening indeed. He was very careful not to be political, but kept referring to the "new Government" next year !
