Miliband is in the same position Cameron was before the last General Election. He was seen as the wrong leader by many in his party and trailed in leader popularity opinion polls.
The difference is UKIP. They could take votes from the Conservatives and let in Miliband by the back door.

// You are confusing your Iraqis. Chemical Ali was hanged, the one you're thinking of was Comical Ali and no one knows what happened to him. //
No, the one HE was thinking of is the fella [ Nobel prize winner I think, but not Abdus Salaam who IS a nobel prize winner but it s not him ] who does the progz on the Periodic Table. Some of the scenes were set in an alchemists lab of 1450 and he does bits and pieces with phosphorus light ( very low temperature flame ). Yeah him
But does he turn electrons into protons ? interesting idea
I cant recollect his name but instead of snub-nose or 'big fella' Chemical Ali is perfectly accurate
and yes the fella said all sorts of sensible chemical things

This was the FT's analysis a few months before the last General Election.
// The message from the opinion polls is that the voters have had their fill of the present government. They think Mr Cameron probably deserves to win. But they are not shouting from the rooftops for a Tory victory. With the government in a mess, the Tories should be at 45 or 50 per cent in the polls. Instead they struggle to stay at about 40 per cent. //

The predicament Miliband finds himself in are identical to 2009. The electorate thought the Government needed to change, but were not convinced by the Conservatives and Cameron. Same can now be said of Miliband and Labour.
