This wassock claimed that he was too weak to walk but went to the Gym everyday ( presumably he crawled there ) and entered bodybuilding competitions ! Did he really think that he was going to get away with it for so long ? And why did it take the authorities 8 years to find out that he was a liar and committed fraud ?

you've sort of answered your own question there. He apparently thought he'd get away with it for years and he did...
Never underestimate the capacity for stupidity in the human race.

All the authorities needed to have done was open the local paper...this twit was Mr Wales for goodness sake....hardly a shrinking violet.
He's a disgrace that's what he is - should be damned thankful he recovered from his injury, so many don't.
The vast majority of fraudulent claimants are caught out only when somebody reports them.
This guy is a genius compared to Tommy Smith ex Liverpool, who although on invalidity benefit and infront of a couple of million viewers on TV before an FA Cup final, ran 50 yards and banged in a penalty.

Smoking these fraudsters out would probably require an extra dozen workers and in the public sector would command about £25,000 a year or more, so it probably would be cheaper to let the "fraudsters" get away with it.

Tongue in cheek answer ;-)
I don't know how he got away with it for so long. I am glad he has been caught out at last. There should be more stringent checks on people who make claims like that.
>>>Did he really think that he was going to get away with it for so long ?

But he did.
So he get a 6 month jail sentence which means he will be out in 3 months or less and I bet he says he can not repay the benefit he claimed and is ordered to pay say £1 a week. Meaning he has got away with £28,000 and has been given a 3 month ' holiday' with 3 hot meals a day, and they say 'crime does not pay!' It seems to pay better than working for a living.

He's good, but he doesn't beat my all time favourite - the canoeist who faked his death, went off to South America with his missus and then posed for a publicity photo for a travel company's website...

...forgetting that the internet can be accessed from the UK.

Stars.
sp - ah yes! Who could forget the Darwin case!
He's from my home town - they're not the brightest buttons in the box :(
But is this bloke an 'Idiot'?
He has pocketed £28,000 in benefits which in all probability he will never repay and he gets 6 months in jail. He pleaded guilty so gets 1/3rd off his sentence automatically so it is down to 4 months. Then there is release at the half way point 2 months , which again is automatic. Finally there is release early 'on tag' which means he is going to spend at most 4 weeks in jail!. I think he knew full well he would get caught and also knew he would just get a few weeks inside. Also think that he made sure he spent every penny he got as soon as it was in his bank account so he could never pay it back. So his £28,000 will have cost him 4 weeks in an open jail with a warm bed and 3 meals a day, oh yes the jail will have a gym so he will not lose on his workouts either. Idiot or genius ?
You quite often see these people who claim to be unable to take more than a couple of shuffling steps unaided, suddenly photographed running a marathon climbing tress, skateboarding. etc
Yes Mikey, I really think they think they can get away with it forever.I've reported someone unable to work but works for cash in hand at several places around town and declares none of it. He actually boasts about it.
Something is surely wrong here, some one some where is not doing their job right & should be suspended, the person in Question has taken the hizz and got away with it until now, but that person is only one of a large number within the UK, I seems that training is not up to the mark to find these people out& until then, this will happen on a weekly basis.
Nope, no idiot. We are the idiots.
anyone remember Cornwall's strongest man?

yes they are idiots getting caught but I'd say the benefit system is the real "idiot" - we need to look at this whole incapacity claimant issue, presumably they managed to fool the medics too.
// The vast majority of fraudulent claimants are caught out only when somebody reports them.//

and there is no shortage of them ( people who report ) having been dobbed in four times so far. My response is: you can have my disease if you want.

HMRC only act on ANONYMOUS reports, they say

Peter, people are talking about the Genuine Scroungers that do not have a disability but will not get off their @rses to find work.
It's a miracle ! I can walk I can walk ...
