Labour needs the Scottish contingent to get them over the line - and that looks like it is drying up.

Were it not for the rise of UKIP, which has thrown a spanner in the works, I would compare this to 1983, when Michael Foot led Labour to a landslide defeat. There is now a third major force in politics which seriously complicates the issue.

The problem that Labour have is that they don't have a credible alternative to Milliband - there are very few 'normal' people who would appeal to the electorate - the only one's I can think of are Alan Johnson or maybe Andy Burnham.

The rest of the Labour leadership like Ed Balls, Harriett Harman, Yvette Cooper etc are deeply unattractive!

I think he should make stronger statements on labour policies but am under no illusion these attacks are mainly press lead especially the Mail on sunday which isn`t worth wrapping fish and chips in.
