I can't understand how a parent, or any family member, can be that vindictive.

Her mother was dying and he tainted the last few months. Unforgivable.

But then she took out an injunction which prevented him attending her funeral!.

can't blame her - lord knows what he'd have got up to there.

I wouldn't have allowed him to attend my mother's funeral if it were me. He showed no compassion for her terminal illness and made her last months more of a misery.
