Kinnock is speaking in a personal capacity, not on behalf of the Labour Party.

Reports are of 20 discontent MPs out of 257. I reckon there are more than 20 Conservative MPs not happy with Cameron. At least Labour MPs aren't leaving a sinking ship and getting elected representing another party.

Just to clarify for those that were not around, "Kinnochio" was the name ascribed to former Labour leader Neil Kinnock in the popular satirical programme "Spitting Image". In this programme popular figures - mainly politicians but also members of the Royal Family and celebrities - were portrayed as caricature style puppets. Mr Kinnock was portrayed in the form of the children's puppet character Pinocchio. This character had a nose which extended as the number of lies he told increased and “Kinnocchio” was portrayed in the same manner. If you are going to engage in any sort of popular and humorous political debate you need to know this sort of thing.

But back to the question, Kinnocchio knows that there is no chance of Mr Ed (another pseudonym) being deposed before next May because of the complexities of the Labour Party's electoral system.

For final clarification, 3Ts (as I call him) or TTT as he is described here, may well be a comedian but more importantly he is also a valuable contributor to the cut and thrust of the debates that make up the “News” section on AB. He provides essential balance to many of the topical debates - such as this one - that take place and without him the debates would seem a bit sterile.

I remember waking up on the morning after the election to utter elation.

I also remember Kinnochio and Glenys going ar5e over head on the beach at Brighton (1983, I think) although I think Glenys just managed to remain on her feet. Of course his failure did no lasting damage to the Kinnock dynasty. Despite his failure to achieve the highest office both "Lord" and "Lady" Kinnock went on to pursue lucrative careers in the EU and their son married into the Danish political elite )the details of which escape me for the moment).

I was in my classroom that morning and had my radio on listening to the final results whilst the children were working. My headmaster and one of the year heads held high office in the local Labour party and had been taunting me for weeks. It was only then that I appreciated the German word, 'Schadenfreude'.

"Kinnochio" was the invention of Private Eye magazine.
The Editor of Private Eye, Ian Hislop, wrote for "Spitting Image" and the not too flattering nickname may have been used on the tv, but was a derogitory print name first.
