Imagine the furore if it had been white youths knocking the turban off an elderly Sikh gentleman/veteran? It would have made the Nationals.

As an ex Serviceman I'm obviously biased but to me there are two things you NEVER do at this time of year and that's harass veterans and burn poppies.
They're sacrosanct IMHO but it is a side of modern society that doesn't really shock me any more.

PP. I somehow doubt you were ever in the services. The beret that was stolen was his regimental one and I would imagine it meant as much to him as his medals. Replacements would not compensate for his loss.

when I was out getting my poppy I paid particular attention to the fella giving it out, and Baldric was absolutely right: ( previous threads ) well turned out in uniform, polite

and when I commented: "dont pin the poppy into my chest, as Tsar Nicholas did to russian soldiers in 1916," the cadet did not give me the standard AB salute of a prolonged 'whaaaaaaaa?' but smiled knowingly. Perfect manners
