If the children are back home in Poland it would seem sensible to pay their local rates, the £18.

It's strange though. When my daughter went to live with her dad in Ireland, in full time school, I phone CA to inform them and they said I wasn't entitled to have it (fair enough) even though I had to pay maintenance.

So why can the other nationalities receive it?

Ummm, my guess is that your child's dad was claiming child benefit (currently 130 euros per month, per child) and child benefit can only be claimed from one country.

If they are working, and paying tax the same as everyone else, then they should get the same benefits.

No. If their children are in a different country they should not have welfare from this one for them at all. Not even the rate they should be getting from the country they are in. The other country is the one with the welfare responsibility for those within their borders.

If they are working and paying taxes and NI, then why shouldn't they get the Child Benefit ?

Heres another question. Should the parents of British people who have been on the dole for years, despite there being jobs available to take, have Child Benefit ? These people are not contributing the system and some of them may never have contributed...is it fair that they are able to claim Child Benefit ?
