Beslan
So, can you believe that a year has now passed since the awful siege in Beslan? It's heartbreaking.
The children who survived have still had their lives literally ripped apart by what happened. I read of one girl who sits all day, every day, drawing pictures of the captors before setting fire to them. Another boy has told of his experience trapped in the school- he was crouching near one of the bombers, who stepped on a detonator by accident, and his brains splattered across the little boy's face.
Will these children ever get over something like this?

We should be reminded of attrocities or else we will become complacent.
I hope and pray with the support of their families they will be able to lead some semblance of normality.
Recall just recently the VJ commeraration - these men saw things that no human being should ever see - and they were just boys. However they have managed to compartmentalise the horror and simply wont discuss it.They have however gone on to lead happy lives and pay personal and private condolence.Lets hope for these poor little ones.Lets not forget Dunblane - the horrors witnessed by survivors beggars belief but by all accounts thankfully they have managed to put it to the back of their minds - never forgetting tho.
This was an incredibly sinister act, as was the earlier siege in the theatre, and that must make it harder to come to terms with - why deny them water?
I saw on the news last night that their school had been replaced by a fantastic new building with IT suites and swimming pools etc - ie totally over the top in comparison to their old or other local schools. I know the thinking may be that having come through that they now deserve the best, but it just looked like the dodgy (in my opinion) Russian government buying back some credibility after its mishandling of the siege. It just didn't ring true.

Russians are tough and have survived much hardship and aggresson in their history. I believe the children have as good a chance as anywhere else of recovering.
The Chechen terrorists were clearly desperate and took a course of action that inevitably lead to the deaths of many innocent people.
