"Sorry,(sic) this school is too white." - that's the headline in a German paper, it relates to Ofsted's downgrading of a primary school in Lincolnshire on the grounds that there are too many white children among its pupils. The article says it is reported in the Telegraph, but I can't find a reference to it, has anyone else seen it?

Just to quote what the actual report, rather than the Hitler Youth Movement Tabloid Daily said :-)

"The school is a good school, but to be an outstanding school, amongst other things ( it needed to) :
" Extend pupils’ understanding of the cultural diversity of modern British society by creating opportunities for them to have first-hand interaction with their counterparts from different backgrounds beyond the immediate locality."

The report doesn't say that the school is "too white" nor that it should import non-white children. That would be outrageous, and silly.
It does say that the children should be made more aware of cultural differences. Whether that is a valid point I have no idea, not knowing the school, but it is not as it is being portrayed in some quarters.
And that is only one of two equally weighted observations, the other being nothing related to cultural issues.

The OFSTED report did not state 'Too white' or 'Too English' - the newspapers did.


You can draw your own conclusions from that.

Having lived in a small Goucestershire village for many years and my kids all going to a similar school to this one, the thought of an Imam coming in to conduct prayers, or dragging them off to Birmingham to visit a mosque, would be completely confusing, expensive, and unproductive in any way.
After all, we can study geography without visiting every country in the world.

Inter school visits and similar are very rewarding and the children really enjoy them - I cannot see what harm that does.
