A loser? She won three terms in office, and one of the reasons she was dismissed by some of her own Party members was because she was opposed to any closer integration with Europe, which to me was a good thing, seeing the consequences that we now find ourselves in.
/// In the 1987 general election, Thatcher won an unprecedented third term in office. But controversial policies, including the poll tax and her opposition to any closer integration with Europe, produced divisions within the Conservative Party which led to a leadership challenge. In November 1990, she agreed to resign and was succeeded as party leader and prime minister by
John Major. ///

1. "Thatcher won an unprecedented third term." Technically you're right; however, your claim overlooks the fact that Harold Wilson won FOUR general elections. Even if you deduct the occasion on which he took power with a minority government, he still won three before SHE did. Perhaps you or your source meant 'unprecedented' within the Tory Party?
2. "Dismissed by some of her own Party members." What do you mean...some silly little group of back-benchers or blue-rinsed ladies in the shires? She was roundly dismissed by the top Tories in her government!
PS On the other thread, did you finally grasp the difference between 'by' and 'to'?

1/ We were not discussing who held office more times.
2/ I never mentioned some silly little group of back-benchers or blue-rinsed ladies in the shires but what I did say was "Dismissed by some of her own Party members", which is perfectly true no matter how you wish to twist my words.

Blame the BBC not me.

TTT...Mrs Voldemort isn't really terribly nasty is it ? A bit perhaps !
I am also thinking of changing my Avatar thingy. I have a couple of requests to post a picture of Willy, my little Yorkie. I will try next week is he will only sit still long enough.
I am off to my caravan in Cornwall on Sunday, until January, so any posts from next week onwards might have small bits of Pasty on them, so be warned.

BlackadderV...with the best will in the world, even if the Tory Party had changed their rules, it is highly unlikely that Mrs T would still be Tory Leader. She had many admirable qualities but coming back from the dead was not one of them.
Regulars on here will know that I was never her greatest fan, God knows, but can I make a plea to let sleeping dogs die. The Tory Party is full of wonderful material for ridicule and satire, without bringing her up every now and then.

AOG,
// ...she was dismissed by some of her own Party members was because she was opposed to any closer integration with Europe //
I think you will find the Poll Tax was her downfall. It was deeply unpopular, and Conservative MPs fearing it would lose them their jobs and the election, ditched her to try and distance themselves from it.
Margaret Thatcher signed every EU agreement put in front of her during her decade in power.
