Why won't it be a deterrant, we look at the respective crime numbers now, without CP, what would they be of we had it??? What were the numbers in terms of Murders, terrorists etc etc back before we stopped hanging the swines in 1964???

Slapshot....the USA has had capital punishment for many years and it has had zero effect on stopping further crimes.

But you are deviating from the core of this discussion. Somebody on here has advocated capital punishment for people who have mental health problems. I have made it quite clear, and most people on here tonight seem to agree, that it is wrong to execute people who have committed crimes due to their insanity.

You are free, of course, to have different views on this issue but I will not be debating this central issue any further tonight.

Well it doesn't exactly deter them in the US......look at their incarceration and execution rates, especially in the South. Six times more people are banged away in Texas than here when put against per 1000 people and they typically buy balsa-wood boxes for fifteen of them a year.

Let Rigby's scum rot in prison and hopefully their own 'virginity' is destroyed by the boys with AIDs and a basket of other STDs. Gonnershere I hope.

If we can find Jihadi John, I can think of quite a few who would do the honours. No experience necessary just a sort of sharpish knife would do. I think the security forces will get there before anyone else though. I have said this before and no doubt will do so again.
In these type of crimes the death penalty would actually encourage more people to do the same!!!
These people genuinely think that by 'dying in the name of Islam' they become martyrs. They are told and believe that a Martyr, is on death, instantaneously transported to Paradise . In Paradise they will enjoy perfect health with no suffering or pain,wonderful food, and everything they ever need including an endless supply of willing, beautiful, seductive virgins. (including boys if that is their preference) Further they will be worshiped as heros for all eternity!
With that on offer getting life sentence is a disaster . They had intended being shot dead by the police so as to become Martyrs, the outcome is the worst that they could imagine and to them infinitely worse than a death sentence .Forced to live here on Earth with infidels!

You want people to commit EXACTLY the same murder against Lee Rigby's killers as they committed, but you think that's alright.

So do you also advocate cutting off the hands of thieves? How about executing a woman for adultery because she committed the 'crime ' of being raped? Or allowing a murderer to buy freedom by paying 'blood money'?
All are part of the same law and really do happen in Saudi Arabia or Iran for example.

I don't care whether capital punishment 'works' or not.
What justice system does? Crime still happens no matter what.
What capital punishment DOES do is ensure that the most heinous crimes receive the most fitting punishment.
How much money will be *** away on these two over the next 45 years?
The likes of them, Ian Huntley, Roy Whiting, Mark Bridger et al will get 3 meals a day and a roof over their heads whilst children and young mothers are denied life prolonging treatments on the NHS.
Some just deserve the death penalty, end of.
