If Cleggie is saying this now, why was Danny Alexander sitting so close to Osborne this week in Parliament. Its seems that one LibDem hand doesn't know what another LibDem hand is doing !

Clegg has a problem. They face wipe out in the upcoming election so he has to show some independance from the Tories but also has try and talk about some of the things that the lib dems have achieved in the coalition.

Of course he has to be careful because the only chance the lib dems have of getting a whiff of power after the next election is joining another coilition so he can't upset the Tories too much.
That's politics, Mikey.
Policies apart, Clegg isn't doing himself any good with his posturing whilst remaining the deputy prime-minister. He entered the coalition voluntarily and is now dissociating himself, whilst still holding power as a willing member. Coalition means just that, a firm, joint alliance and responsibility - and people who back off from alliances are not well-regarded in history. I think the electorate will see through him. His own M.P.s are obviously unsettled.

Oh I know that Hopkirk ! Its just that somebody needs to point once in a while when the King isn't wearing any clothes.

If Cleggie has any sense at all, he will call a press conference next week and formally announce that the coalition is now officially over.

What does he have to lose ? He knows he is going to suffer at the hands of the Electorate next May but at least if he is honest and above board, he may still yet be able to retrieve some self-respect and some MPs.
"Its seems that one LibDem hand doesn't know what another LibDem hand is doing ! " - standard Lib dum policy mikey!
As there seems to be no major legislation in the immediate pipeline I am surprised that Cameron has not seized the initiative; dismiss all LibDem ministers and rule as a minority government for the rest of the term. It couldn't do him any harm.
Mikey buy the book 'The Coalition' by Martin Rowson, OH is enjoying it at the minute
This is simply the inevitable scenario of the coalition. Clegg and the Lib Dems have to strike out and distance themselves from Cameron . He's free to speak his mind - and the truth: Osborne's figures do not add up.
I guess Danny Alexander had to be there in the Commons on Winter Warmup day as chief secretary to the treasury
Apart from that Clegg looks and sounds demob happy to me. He has very little to lose by casting off his cares and relaxing and speaking his mind. His annual Christmas card this year is almost student-like in that respect with him and his wife in the photo booth.
people who back off from alliances are not well-regarded in history

nah, Churchill actually changed parties twice and is still reasonably well regarded.

Maybe it was his turn to work the (ventriloquist) dummies this week.

I'm here all week......
The coalition fell apart on day one. Coalitions rarely , if ever, work. If parties all thought alike, they'd all be the same party. Danny Boy is a closet tory and little Nickerless is 100% a Brussels Boy so he'll be heading there after May. He won't have a job here.
The Coalition will unravel in the New Year.

The Coalition will formally disband by mutual agreement around Budget time in March.

That will leave the Conservatives and LibDems free to do their electioneering. They will both claim the Coalitions achievements (there must be some) as their own, and blame the other party for all the mistakes.

What are your thoughts on the Lib/Dems joining up with Labour to form yet another coalition, after May's election mikey?

After al their policies are more suited to each other.
Cleggie can say what he likes, but he would gang up with anyone if it meant power-sharing again, regardless of their policies.

I have just heard Danny Alexander being interviewed by Naughtie on the Today Program, and he is all over the place in regards to the Coalition. I am amazed that it ever got off the ground in the first place, as the LibDems and the Tories are diametrically opposed on so many issues.

Then they will make perfect bed partners with Labour.

I would not be surprised if the SNP have more MPs than the LibDems after the next election, and that they will be the kingmakers. The LibDems are now tainted goods. Brown wanted to Clegg to join him in a coalition in 2010, but after their 5 years ruining the country, it would be a harder call for Miliband to seek an alliance.
My money is on a Labour/SNP Coalition.

You may have something there, all the more reason why the English should have been allowed a referendum on whether or not we wanted to cut our ties with Scotland.

Electoral Calculus are predicting the LibDems will have 19 seats (down from 57), and that the SNP will have 42 seats. I cannot see the LibDems being in coalirion with anyone after next May.

They also predict the chances of a Labour/SNP Government higher than the chances of a Lab/LibDem one.
