Based on my perception of the recent 'buddy-comedies' to have been released by the American studios, it seems a shame that this very real, and worrying, development should have been brought about by a film which is likely to be not very good.

I don't think it was Sony's decision though not to show it. The theatres were the ones who said they would not go through with the Premieres.

They had little choice. If any loon had entered a theater and done something the lawsuits wold have come piling in.

Sony have not withdrawn it though, they have just not released it for Xmas. It may well still be released.

As for making a film about an assassination of a live head of state, no matter who it is, one does have to wonder if that is right. Comedy or not.

It is rarely right to capitulate to terrorist threats. It just encourages them and they didn't even need to do more than threaten to get it. I hope Sony learns to regret the decision.

I was, at first, assuming it was only in the US where the cinemas got too scared to show it anyway, but it is inexcusable to be a world-wide withdrawal.

Still maybe it'll be leaked and appear world-wide on BitTorrent ?

In the meantime, a quiet protest is going on... at imdb the film's been rated 10/10. If the hackers had ignored the film so might everyone else have, as actual reviewers don't seem to have rated it.
