And behind the newsreader there's a glass screen and people get up and shuffle around? Aren't they told "This is a news broadcast so no one moves for 3.5 minutes under threat of being fired for disrupting a live airwave broadcasting" or something like that?

but they aren't disrupting it.....

How do they disrupt anything, they're just getting on with their own jobs,

You can see their backs moving and in some cases they even stop with someone else who has got up and are having a converstation.

I'm just wondering has anyone worked in a news station and are they told to go toilet etc.. prior to the news cast when they're then told to sit still.
No.

A team of people are collating news for future broadcasts, do you really want them to sit on their hands until it is deemed un intrusive by your narrow viewpoint?
I quite agree with you Henri, especially when you get a stroppy one like thisL

The whole set-up is carefully designed to give the atmosphere of a busy newsroom...I don't like it, so don't watch the stations that do it.

Ecclescake soo that's what they do! I always thought they were unrelated and just shared the same work space! I always did wonder why the frosted glass though. Can anyone remember the bit where some guy emailed his colleague a naked photo and then told him to turn around? Can anone post the link to that please as that was so funny with his colleagues unsuspecting face until he saw the camera
This sort of backdrop has been done for years, Henrietta. World Of Sport with Dickie Davies back in the 80's etc.
Ahhh, used to love that programme with Dickie Davies :-)
With his white quiff, Maydup. ;)

Haha, thanks Hopkirk that made me laugh. With the bells it looked a cross between a pagan witch ritual and the Morris Dancers

Probably strict health and safety regulations under threat of sacking in case they scald someone or spill on electrics and it's all caught on camera methyl
They are paid extras

I find them distracting and, at times, totally inappropriate
It doesn't bother me. I'm only interested in the news.
