Yes, they've already said that the letter makes them feel a̶s̶h̶a̶ very angry. And it's not fair, everyone picking on the poor old muslims. Jeez, the way people go on you'd think they, and not the EDL and the Jews, were responsible for all the unrest in Britain/the world.

the imam interviewed on ITV Good Morning Britain this morning was "disappointed", "appalled" etc by the letter. And a lily-livered Susannah Reid interviewing him seemed terribly sympathetic. Very different from the way the Archbishop Of Westminster has been interviewed about child abuse within the Catholic church - oh my, the way he was grilled you'd have thought he'd been personally responsible. But with a certain other religion, kid gloves and pussy-footing only are the order of the day. Why are we letting this happen????????
I have been unable to find the full text of the letter to assess its contents. From the snippets in the Daily Telegraph report, it sounds clumsy and ham fisted. It will probably offend Imans which is the opposite to what was intended.
Not sure it was wise to let Pickles loose on this. He has a reputation for being not very diplomatic and blundering.

Dear Mr. Hitler,
We respectfully request that you withdraw your troops from Poland, France, Holland and Norway. The vast majority of moderate, peace-loving Nazis disagree with the extreme politics promulgated by Messrs Goering, Himmler and Goebells, nor do they approve of gassing Jews, homosexuals and gypsies. We hope that you will do all in your power to rein in these radicals.
Yours sincerely
Winston.

// Eric Pickles has written to the Imams, but will they take any notice. //
The muslim Council of Britain has done exaxtly what Pickles is asking in the past.
// Muslim community leaders yesterday issued their strongest assertion of opposition to terrorism, calling on mosques to issue "correct Islamic guidance" to followers, in an attempt to head off criticisms that they have failed to condemn violence sufficiently firmly in the past.
A two-page statement was sent out by the Muslim Council of Britain, representing 400 organisations, calling on imams to reinforce the message of peace at Friday's prayer meetings at 1,000 mosques across the country.
The letter quotes the Koran as saying: "He who kills any person unless it be a person guilty of manslaughter or of spreading chaos in the land should be looked upon as though he had slain all mankind and he who saved one life should be regarded as though he had saved the lives of all mankind."
Daud Abdullah, the council's assistant secretary general, insisted that the words could not be interpreted to apply to political leaders who supported the war in Iraq. "What is unlawful in Britain is unlawful for all Muslims," he said.
The statement calls on Muslims to observe the utmost vigilance against any "mischievous or criminal elements from infiltrating the community and provoking any unlawful activity" and to cooperate fully with the police. It adds that Muslims have an obligation to maintain the peace and security of the country. //

But this time, instead of engaging they have chosen to nit pick the letter for any small point they can find.
This was a golden opportunity for them to get behind the Government (not just the Tories) and show the UK they are part of it and not a separate community. If there were bits they were not too happy it would have been easy to clarify these in a written reply which was positive and 100% behind ridding the country of Islamic terrorists.
But they chose not to, I wonder why. I suspect some of them have fundamentalist tendencies and are unwilling to tackle it with more than words.

The full text of the letter can be found at the end of this report.

Pity our politicians can't write to the indigenous population apologising for the way they have changed our country behold all recognition by their failed multicultural experiment.
But then when have they ever been bothered about our feelings?

It said on the news just now that some of the Muslim community feels a bit miffed at this letter, feeling that the majority of terrorists are not aroused by what they hear locally in the mosques (as they don't hear it there) but by what they've been able to access on-line in the hatred messages. They say that by and large the Muslim community is well integrated and not divisive.
The Government would never send a letter to the Archbishop of Canterbury telling him what he must do and say. If they did, I am sure it would be ignored.
Imans do not see Eric Pickles as anyone who can tell them what to do. A better approach would have been to encourage them to reinterate their previous efforts. Hectoring from Pickles will be counter productive.
