Sources told the Guardian that the Sun had planned for the demise of Page 3 to pass under the radar. When the Guardian revealed plans to scrap it on Monday, a senior editor quipped privately: “If I were the boss, I’d put in a topless pic just to spite everybody.”

It was all just an attempt by the Sun to get loads of free advertising and to boost their flagging circulation figures. It worked.

I think the same, Naomi. I think those who buy the Sun become immune to it. The Sun readers I know buy it because it's easy to read when they have very little time (lunch breaks etc)

That's exactlly why I bought it ummm, it is quick and easy to read.

The Sun's problem is that the price is too high for a quick and easy read, not whether or not there are boobs on page 3 or any other page for that matter.

It is easy to read though. I think you'll find many people that buy it don't actually buy magazines. What do you think they are doing? Spending their lunch breaks staring at a pair of tits? C'mon....most people have the internet for that.

In this day and age, the notion of a topless pic being a source of eroticism seems laughably outdated.

I wonder if the Sun hangs on to the concept because of 'tradition', rather than because anyone seriously finds the topless picture that alluring.

My view is that it looks seriously anachronistic, but I have never been a son reader, so it's hard to think how they do.
