Going back into your OP now to see if I can sign the petitions. Animal welfare should be a priority. All power to the BVA.

Non- stun should be illegal. No animal should endure the terror and pain . Anyone who thinks otherwise does not have the animal's welfare in their hearts. Can you imagine the poor terrified animals being pushed and shoved to their deaths. It must be bad enough for them to be stunned first ,let alone have their throats cut and hung up to die. All abattoirs should have cctv and this should be shown to all those religious groups who want the non-stun killings. It might sicken a few.Once again we are bending over backwards to accommodate religious beliefs. Surely if anyone knows about the welfare of animals it is the BVA.

6 million of us eat £3billion worth of Halal meat every year. There are hundreds of sites licensed to supply halal and kosher meat throught the UK.
You are suggesting we import all that?
People who eat meat but are fussy about how it is murdered are just hypocrites. At the end of the day an animal is killed, and then eaten. The method of its termination is irrelevent.

OMG how can you say that Gromit? While I accept there is some degree of hypocrisy in me being a meat lover and also being sentimental about cows do you really think if that cow is stunned or killed as painlessly as possible it's no different to getting 12 people to shoot arrows at it from 20 yards while it had fireworks tied to its feet? Of course it's relevant.
We're making far too many concessions to religion and to Islam in particular. If the Danes can do it, so can we.

It may not be relevant to you but the method of its termination is very relevant to me gromit and I go to a lot of trouble to try and ensure that I do not eat halal meat. This means not eating meat pies etc, no lamb except from M&S South West range and in fact I now eat meat on fewer occasions than I ever have. As much as I can I want to buy what I hope had a good life before being killed as humanely as possible. It costs me more but as I say I don't eat it that often.
