And I mean real weapons, not these laser ones.
Britain must be the only country in the world who's police don't carry guns.

It would be a mistake to have every policeman or policewoman armed all the time on our streets. There is no need for it, and I don't think the public would want it.
I don't think the statement of us being the only country where the police routinely carry weapons is true.

I'm in favour of Tasers & think ALL the police forces should carry them, "regards weapons" I think it's getting to the stage that this will be the case in the future the way things are going, I also think that there should be no messing around with these cranks, shoot first ask questions later, I will more that likely get called for my views, but I live in a real world, & the real world is, Terrorism Threat as you state A.O.G.
Of course we have trained armed police at airports etc, also response units ready to swing into action, but on a one to one confrontation would a threatened police officer have time to call in such a unit?
Most of us have been abroad and mingled with armed police officers, have anyone of us been in any danger of being caught in any cross fire? Neither have anyone seen a policeman shooting pheasant for his supper.

We were more at risk of terrorist attacks in the 1970s and 80s than we are now.

We didn't routinely arm the police then, so we shouldn't now.
There is no evidence that countries with an armed policeforce are safer. Ignoring the obvious comparison with the United States, Australia which has armed police has nearly 3 times more murders by gun than the UK.
