Financially it makes very little sense for the Chancellor to raise money this way. He is borrowing at a much higher rate than he needs to and it is costing working taxpayer a lot more. It is a very bad deal for everyone except a key group of voters at the election.
Not just a shameless bribe, but a very expensive way for a Government to finance its deficit.

Best thing to do with an election bribe. The floating voter doesn't decide until the night before so there isn't much point doing the bribe otherwise.
