Okay let me see they were put up in a hotel that was housing asylum seekers, then the hotel's residents were given permission to play football on the rugby club's field, then finally they were signed up to play in the rugby team.

What a tale of success for two criminals, one couldn't make it up.

/// Also missing since the Games ended is Rwanda's athletics coach. ///

Perhaps St Peter's RFC should now try to trace him so as to sign him up as their coach?

maggiebee I think you seem to understand that they worked here whilst subject of a visitors visa. Good. That contravenes the terms of coming here on a visitors visa if they worked. One can assume that they, therefore are not working for nothing but also are not paying N.I. or tax on their income. It was suggested earlier that this was probably planned in...

Was their 6month visa granted for them to participate in the Commonwealth Games in August 2014. That closed 6 months ago. They were rumoured to have been working in a Glagow car wash in the meanwhile.. Did they survive on fresh air and why didn't they immediately claim asylum when they slipped away from their team mates 6 months ago?
AOG, I look at your posts often, I also look at other posters comments on Illegals been allowed into this country through one way or another, with respect, where do you think it gets you? I am not disagreeing with your views / posts you are right in a lot of your reports, It does not matter what views you or others have it is happening, it will happen & there is nothing you can do about it, just today the Big banks have fiddles the Country out of Millions, what will happen? Feck all, there was a report of Vast Tax Cuts for Tory Backers, what can you do about it? we all have our views, you can say /shout all you like & nothing will happen, the UK Public are put on, put on by who? the people that put them in power, that being the UK Public.
//the UK Public are put on,
put on by who?
the people that put them in power,
that being the UK Public.//

So, the UK Public are put upon by themselves, is that what you mean?

A Ugandan rugby player who went on the the run after the Commonwealth Games scored two tries on his debut for a small Welsh rugby club.

Philip Pariyo and Benon Kizza have both started playing for Cardiff's St Peter's RFC, as revealed by WalesOnline on Sunday.

The two men vanished in Scotland last August amidst rumours they were working in a Glasgow car wash

Gromit.
The above was a news update supplied by the Rugby club from your link.
It says the men vanished in August and "disappeared" was another word used in the link. This update was posted in January. You can see they reappeared after it was rumoured they were working in a Glasgow car wash. Vanished and hiding does suggest they hid. "rumoured to have been working in a Glasgow car wash"" does suggest they got paid for their work!!! So you tell me where they were and what were they doing between August 2014 and January 2015
It seems clear that this was planned in advance. Their travel to Scotland will have been paid for by the Ugandan Authorities. If they have a skill at playing Rugby, they stand a better chance of pursuing that in Wales rather than in Uganda. So it was no accident they ended up in Cardiff.

They didn't apply for Asylum 6 months ago, because they didn't have to do. Now they have been accepted, they are allowed to work. They seem to have been accepted in the local community too, so a win - win all around.
Retrocop,

It s not really true that they reappeared this weekend. It was clear that they were at the club before 7th January when they were wrote about on the Club's website.
Their movements since the Commonwealth games and the precise time they applied for Asylum has not been revealed by the Home Office who are not commenting on the case. I would imagine the process takes several months.

So were they or not working in Glasgow at a car wash in August 2014 whilst still on a visitor's visa?

I give up on this post. The gentleman would fabricate a defence for the Devil incarnate if he turned up at Dover!!
Retrocop,
// So were they or not working in Glasgow at a car wash in August 2014 whilst still on a visitor's visa //

Dunno. "Rumoured to be" working there is different from confirmation or any actual evidence that they were.

// Would you just abandon a sick daughter and the rest of your family like he has. //
There are many EU migrants working in the UK who have left their families in their home country. They can better provide for them by working here than if they stayed in Poland. The Ugandans might figure that they can provide for their family better in the long run if they can get a good job here. There are probably more opportunities for Rugby Players in Cardiff than there are in Kampala.

No straight answer as usual. Two links suggest they were working but that is conveniently glossed over.
Last time I looked Uganda isn't in the EU and we actually need people who are skilled workers not amateur rugby players or car wash hops.
Now I just wonder who will soon be following these two gentlemen from their beleaguered homeland? Just watch this space and they all lived happily ever after on benefits and enjoying the rugby at our expense.
i
Diveduddy,

It is an hypothetical question. But if I could provide for my family better by working in another country, I would do so. I have worked abroad, many people do.
Retrocop,
I hope you weren't really a policeman. You wouldn't get very far in court by presenting roumours.

They may have been working in Glasgow, but without evidence then you cannot say they were. They might have been working in a Black and White Minstrel show, but I have no evidence to support that.
So as I said before. They existed on fresh air whilst keeping under the radar.???. I suppose you won't deny that a black economy does exist and why would two different links suggest a car wash in Glasgow immediately after they disappeared? Are you seriously saying that they should be allowed here, with no doubt the excess baggage to follow them later, in order to enhance their rugby skills?
if "they may have been working in Glasgow". You choose to believe they were not.Why would that be.? Benefit of the doubt ? More like naivety!

/// It does not matter what views you or others have it is happening, it will happen & there is nothing you can do about it, ///

This is a debating site, and yes you may be right to a certain extent, but if we all held our hands up in the air and said "there is nothing we can do about it" where would we be?

I will tell you, we would be walked all over, at least if the press make their views known and we debate amongst ourselves then at least we let others know even those in high places what our feelings are.

Then there is the ballot box, why do you think UKIP have upset the establishment and attracted support from the ordinary guy in the street? Because they are telling us what we want to hear, they are addressing the concerns of the man in the street.

/// so a win - win all around. ///

How can it be a win - win all round?

Two more that need housing, two more in the NHS queue, and when they bring their families over, another load of kids to educate in our crowded classrooms etc etc etc.

Oh and by the way what's happened to the one that hasn't surfaced yet?

// Are you seriously saying that they should be allowed here //

I'm not, the Home Office is. They have been granted them Asylum, so they can stay.

How they survived is unknown. The WalesOnLine article suggests they were not surviving very well.

// Mr Sweeney believed the players had been granted asylum for “a period of time.”

A source said: “It’s a tragic story which has turned good".

When they were found by the club they were barely able to feed themselves. “They are now eating better,” the insider said. “They were going a day-and-a-half without food.” //

*** They are moving into the flat in Splott today. We need your help… They now just need – a washing machine -under worktop 500mm freezer and some pots and pans please. ***

Gromit has fought their case most eloquently, seeing that he is so sympathetic toward these two, I wonder which he will be donating as a house warming gift so to speak, the under worktop washing machine, or maybe the freezer?

Just the pots and pans would be an insult seeing that he supports them so much, hey what about Gromit's guest room rent free, now that is what you call support?
