Oh so just because it happened to be from uncouth Fry it is perfectly acceptable?

Note the BBC's response, first they address him as Stephen instead of using his surname as is generally the case with others, then go on to excuse him because that is how he is.

/// “Stephen, whose irreverence and style is extremely well-known to
viewers, ///

And what could be said regarding the Independence's reporting:

/// In happier news, Fry chose the Baftas weekend to make his first public appearance with his new husband Elliott Spencer, who watched on from the wings as the actor won the affections not just of Birdman stars Michael Keaton and Ed Norton, but also a kiss from Cuba Gooding Jr. ///

All lovies together, yuk, please pass the sick bucket.

/// So you think someone who spent three months in prison should have been written off? Never been given another chance? ///

Twisting my words once again, but no I have never thought those words so how can you twist them?

/// is this again AOG getting easily offended?, we must remember this the next time he tells us that people getting easily offended is a major
problem. ///

Neither did I say that I was offended, it was those who phoned the BBC or who twitted that were offended.

I see you avatar is sporting an affro .

Do you think affro and flared trousers ( like in the original shaft ) will make a comeback - what's the word on the streets ?
I`m not offended by it but I just can`t see the point in swearing just for the sake of it, especially when he is so articulate. Why not just say "Tom Cruise"? Silly man.
It didn't bother me at all as I don't watch anything containing this odious man...
Ummmm- Expelled from 2 schools and 3 months in prison. Bad bad man, he should have been hung.

AOG - Well if that is not serious in your book, then it just goes to prove the difference between us when it comes to acceptable morals and behaviour.

Ummmm- So you think someone who spent three months in prison should have been written off? Never been given another chance?

AOG - Twisting my words once again, but no I have never thought those words so how can you twist them?

You are questioning his morals and behaviour from a long time ago. You are questioning my morals for not actually holding it against him.

Maybe he got suspended from two schools because he was fighting inner demons knowing he'd have to live in a world where people write...

//All lovies together, yuk, please pass the sick bucket.//

And remember, it was much worse for gays 'back then'!!!

/// AOG - how about taking some blame for the way your mind works? Could you clarify exactly why a bunch of actors kissing makes you feel sick? ///

It is just a widely used saying, nothing more and nothing less.

They just don't have to be actors kissing, there are many on this site who also 'make me sick'.
OK, so you've clarified that they do make you feel sick. But why?

'Not all there' is that an old fashioned way of describing Bipolar?

Thank you for your reply.
I haven't really noticed he does it anymore than other people, straight or gay.
me neither.

/// No, it isn't. But why does he have to spend so much time telling us how gay he is.///

Why do others have to spend so much time telling us how right they are?

Some of this is akin to a sharp metal object being drawn across a blackboard -

Sanctimony rules, oh, key.

I recall that Stephen Fry is cited in the OED as the first user of the word "luvvie" (alt.sp. "lovie") - as attested to by Emma Thompson on QI, to wit -

1988 S. Fry in Guardian 2 Apr. 17/8 "Acting in a proper grown-up play, being a lovie, doing the West End, ‘shouting in the evenings’, as the late Patrick Troughton had it."

Just saying.
I think some people might look out for it and not notice when straight people do.
I wasn't offended by his use of the "F" word, I just thought it was so pointless. Why use such a horrible word for no reason, on television.

He brings himself down to the level of the young yobs/children I pass in the park. Does it make him feel, clever?
I notice it every time I go to the pub. When straight people come in holding hands and come out with sexual innuendos. Pay attention. Happens all the time!! It even happens on panel shows. Did you know John Richardson is engaged now? They make jokes about him and his GF all the time...

I agree with the above - he is no more outwardly Gay than any other presenter/actor on TV.

Re the wording being unnecessary, that may be so but it was used for emphasis, not really akin to two yobs effing continually on the top deck of a bus.

Would the Italian Job have been a better movie if they had said..

''You're only supposed to blow the doors off! "
