[i]The former Italy manager Arrigo Sacchi has denied being racist after he was quoted as saying there are “too many black players” at youth level in Italy – evidence that the nation is now “without dignity or pride”.[i]
Is this the very definition of racism?
If the players are good enough, then what's the problem if they are black?
When people open a statement with a qualification, you know that qualification is about to be contradicted by whatever follows it out of the speaker's mouth.
Classic example "I'm not being funny but ..." which is followed by a statement of complete 'funniness', but not in the amusing sense.

From sp's previous posts he has stated he is from an immigrant family who emigrated to the UK from some time in the past. Therefore ,unless there is the continuous use of a whitewash brush, I believe it is reasonable to assume that sp is black. Ask him if that is not true. His Avatar might give you a clue. What's your problem ??
I think if you gave your interpretation of racism we could answer you in a more in-depth way. The word is used in too many situations these days which really makes me ponder.
Maybe your interpretation of racism makes un-racist people racist. What exactly is your definition on racism and please dont consult a dictionary as no one else seams to.
cos retro, it was the (personal) criticism about sp being a hypocrite which I thought to be somewhat ott. Go back to the original question and it was about folk's immediate reaction to 'I'm not racist but'
I agree with you about Part 2 and it was clumsy, part of which could have been 'lost in translation' too.
No. My collection of Robertson's Go**yw*g* was an innocent childhood collection until left wing right on lentil crunchers like you made it almost criminal and actually made young kids thing the black guy was a Bogey man.

Unlike most I am not backtracking on what I said. It was said with an element of humour and a tongue in cheek statement.Sorry if you take life so seriously and don't agree with my humour. It wasn't actually a personal attack on sp.
Talbot
I believe it might mean, amongst many other meanings, a shi**Y joke that isn't particularly funny. Jive talk I am led to believe but not native to the English vocabulary.
sp
I never said YOU used jive talk did I. I was merely explaining to Talbot what I read on the net re the expression "up dog " which I also had not heard of so looked it up for myself . no need to jump on the defensive is there ??
