Yes I followed the results his survey and subsequent comments with interest.

The Beeb clearly picked out the most appealing aspects of the results for their headlines. But Mr Glover is quite correct when he says that the survey revealed some profoundly disturbing results. For me the most worrying were that a quarter of respondents had “some sympathy” for the killers who murdered 11 people. A quarter, that is, not a few fringe lunatics. Another quarter (whether it is the same people we do not know) supported violence against anyone publishing images of their prophet. Almost half believed that extremist clerics who preached violence against the West were not out of touch.

Interviews with the “(Muslim) man in the street” revealed a good number of similarly sympathetic views. Muslims seem to believe that they must be immune from the traditional British habits of mickey taking and insults which are hurled at many people daily. As someone said to my great-uncle after he had been rescued from the beach at Dunkirk with a broken arm and a bullet in his shoulder, “if you can’t take a joke you shouldn’t have joined”. After all, there must be plenty of places in the world where their religious sensitivities are far more reverently respected apart from western Europe.

Well put Judge.
My first reaction was to question why so many were not in tune with Western thinking. It's a lot of people. My second was to think that a lot of people lie in surveys so perhaps more would be sympathetic. In either case it is a lot of people who rebut Western values - and it is alarming.
