Taking into account all the time spent and the good work he did there during the "war effort" makes me wonder what the UK held against Kiwis.

(Maybe it was the Welsh not wanting to share the sheep) ;-)

I don't want to stir up an immigration debate but (lol, there's that famous word) when you consider some of the 'enrichers' that get their hands on a British passport today, this seems a pretty poor show. History now, I suppose.
If it turns into a debate over immigrants, I'm outa here.

Reading the article it appears to me a young educated Kiwi went to the UK on a highly regarded scholarship, was roped into defending the country, which he did, awarded for his efforts then told to "*** off".

Can't turn back time...

That appears to be the size of it, oz. Makes you proud to be British, not. (sometimes)
I'll never forget where I came from Svejk.

Though I don't always tell the indigenous people I meet ;-)

I expect it would be most illuminating to check the war record of the apparatchiks that turned him down. ;)

As an aside, we have a big, new TV series, just started, about your ancestors, oz.
"Suits on seats".
People with nothing really to offer.
Except their "upper class" breeding ;-)
It's halfway finished here Svejk. Don't really watch it myself but see a tad sometimes.
We is a "motley crew" we is ;-)

A: I like this country, am a member of the Commonwealth with roots in England. Have tried to help the mother country in its war effort. And I wish it well.

Same question, same assessor, different petitioner:
A: Your culture, and morals are disgusting. But I like the idea of free housing. and the support which you've promised me I will get will get for my two wives and our children.
Verdict: Welcome! Three bedrooms or four?

There was a thread on here but I can't find it. (it's not under TV anyway, which is where I'd expect to find it. Perhaps they put it under 'Travel', lol.)
Aaahhhhh, someone had to bring a modern spin to a question of history..
Well done!!!!!

I was going to ask if you get it, oz. Joint production, I shouldn't wonder. Those English officers are right ***, Lol.

^ bar stewards?
Yeh Svejk we do, but we are used to dealing with "bar stewards".
Coz that's wot we are ;-)
Imagine the pressure that young Kiwi and his meteorologist mates must have been under.
"Nah you lot, hold all the ships and the fighting men here for another day"
Don't worry about the cost, the delay. It'll all be worth it.
I have not always lived up to all the moral principles that my parents taught me, Svekj, And I have a bad conscience for that. But the one thing for which I take pride, and for which I hope my parents would too, is that I've always worked for a living rather than leeching off the largesse of the English or Welsh tax payer.
Question Author
The gmeb thread is very late this morning. Lazy bludgers.
Question Author
Talking about the largesse of taxpayers, did you see my 'unbelievable' thread, vetuste?
