Female Violence Towards Men.

I posted a thread in ChatterBank entitled 'feminists' V 'male Chauvinist Pigs' which received an answer regarding violence towards women.

In my trawl through the various newspaper's web sites, I came across this, which was headline news in the Independent, so I then thought that this would be more fitting for your comments in the News Section rather that post it in Chatterbank?

It exists?
The fact that there's no shame in admitting it?
How to stop it?

AOG can answer for himself but it would seem to me that this kind of crime is rarely publicised and we may be forgiven to think that it doesn't therefore exist.

But, as this case shows, it most certainly does. My gut reaction is that this kind of thing is underreported by the male victims, which shouldn't be the case.

I too agree with Mikey's comment - under-reporting is largely why this is seen to be less of a problem.

Part of that may well be ascribed to the way we have brought boys up for generations - 'big boys don't cry' etc etc - thereby introducing an element of shame and weakness preventing men talking about it.

Men were victims of just over a quarter of incidents of domestic violence in 2010, according to the British Crime Survey, so not as rare as one would think.

All violence is abhorrent in my view.

You have got to be joking there are enough women's groups for support, even a Minister for Women and Equalities, where are the male equivalents?

i think there is an additional stigma on domestic abuse toward men, that they should be able to stand up for themselves and that it shouldn't happen, it may be unreported for that and many other reasons. Doesn't change the fact that domestic violence, whoever its directed to, is horrific on a physical and psychological level and victims should be given as much help and support as possible

quite simply violence toward any other person should not be tolerated

we like to categorise victims in levels of importance. This is also true of racism, sexism and just about every other 'ism'

It depends on the circumstances.

You often see on TV a woman slapping a man round the face and it's not considered domestic violence.

It's a really tricky dilemma.

In an ideal world no one should hit anyone. There is a difference between someone lashing out on a very very very rare occasion because of 'insert issue' to one that does it to dominate and belittle.
