I'll correct the first post, there are sections, it just doesn't seem like it does, somehow. It's the way it goes all the way across maybe. Or maybe the clinical white glare ?

It's not only the awful design but all the pictures are out of focus on my browser, like the whole picture is pixelated, anyone else get that?

Old Geezer,

Responsive Design is not one size fits all, it is exactly the opposite. We have had one size fits all until now. If you looked at the BBC webite on a 24 inch desktop monitor it would be fine, but if you looked at it on your 7 inch tablet or 3.5inch you would get served the same layout but scaled down to an unreadable size. Then you have to highlight and zoom the postage stamp size articles to a larger size. It was clumpsy and not at all user friendly.
Responsive Design takes the full desktop layout and automatically re-positions it to be readable on small screen devices.

IE8, the home screen is ok but when I go into any of the sections, the pictures in the main story are pixelated.

the Guardian's just done the same: it's to make it usable across different platforms. From the point of view of a PC user like me, it means there's much less to read on the index pages and a lot of photos I don't need, so I don't like it.But I can hardly cancel my subscriptions, can I.
I too TTT, are not happy, although I am slowly getting used to it. Its a tad too bright for my taste.
I assumed my browser had gone wrong, and was making the layout look crarp. I'll stop worrying now I know they've made it look crarp deliberately.
Your browser IE8 is 6 years old. Using an old browser is not recommended as web standards change all the time and your browser isn't built for it.

It is the equivalent of using a valve radio when everyone else is using a DAB one.
If you are not using different pages for different media it is the same thing going to all. Even if it can adjust itself. Different pages, is the right way to go. Anyway, I'm not keen whatever the reasons.
