High earners already pay more tax, that's how proportional systems work.

A union was holding a mass meeting in the factory yard when a convoy of cars carrying the directors passed them.
The shop steward turned to the men and said, "Look there, these directors smoking their fat cigars and you having to smoke Woodbines. When we have a socialist government you'll all be smoking cigars."
A voice at the back said, "I like Woodbines, I don't like cigars."
The shop steward replied, "Brother, when we have a socialist government you'll smoke what you're bloody well told to smoke!"

That's obvious in the name - Labour
The party is owned and funded by the trade unions - yes, those people who chose Ed the plonker instead of his brother.
Ed has called the energy companies, bankers and tobacco companies the enemy. Freeze their prices, tax their mansions, grab their bonuses and impose levies on them.
Dust off the red flag, brothers

Those with the broadest shoulders already are carrying the heavier burden - twas ever thus.
I suspect he's talking about the increase for the >£150k earners to 50%: this is sop politics of the worst kind and is there simply to mollify the jealous given that last time there was a 50p rate the total tax take from those paying the highest rate of tax was less than before the hike.

Are there any other people on this site who find this immoral?
It genuinely puzzles me that those that strive to achieve the most they possibly can in life, become successful and are among the largest contributors to the tax coffers, will then be punished for their success by the imposition of a substantial tax hike.

It doesn't.
When Blair/Brown took over in 1997, the halved the deficit they inherited from Major in the first year. They then went on to record a surplus (they raised more money than they spent) for 4 straight years. That raised £40billion and they were able to reduce the national debt.

Remember, the national debt cannot be reduced while the Government is borrowing, and Osborne is borrowing a lot. Osborne has managed to double the national debt in one term. It is now £1.5trillion.
