Should they have their British passports taken away?

Should they face internment?

Should their children be taken into care?

I fail to see how you can 'punish' people for travelling to another country.

There is no proof of the intentions of any of these individuals, so as it stands, all they have done is cross a border.

I shall be doing the same on Tuesday, when I go to Spain on holiday - fortunately, my children are too old to be taken into care! I would not fancy internment either.

I am glad that others than you are in charge of such matters AOG, your draconian mind set is at odds with people who are thus far innocent of any wrongdoing.
Yes

Yes.

Yes

The were prepared to put their children's lives at risk.
Addendum - I see that they have attempted to cross the border illegally, but that said, there is no given reason for their travel.
TWR - //The were prepared to put their children's lives at risk. //

Better be ready with Social Services for every family that holidays in Tunisia this Easter then!
Andy, I am only going off a Oxford Educated person's comment the time I was there, I'd seen a lot of people in this market place thinking it was a holiday, it seems they were unemployed & there is no Dole / Benefits, I don't know if this is correct.
// there is no given reason for their travel. //

Doubtless, sun hats and sun cream packed, they were going off on a jolly. Syria's the 'in place' for jollies at the moment.
TWR - // I don't know if this is correct. //

Exactly - so wouldn't it be better not to jump to conclusions and support AOG's instant 'punishment' notions when so far we know very little about what has gone on, or why?
Naomi - //// there is no given reason for their travel. //

Usual sarcasm aside, that does not negate my point.

You can't 'punish' people for what you think they might be doing.
I doubt they have gone on their Hols Andy Especialy the ways things are.
andy-hughes, Simply an analogy to your reference to holidays in Tunisia (no sarcasm in that of course) which frankly really doesn’t work.
TWR - //I doubt they have gone on their Hols Andy Especialy the ways things are. //

If you are referring to the Turkey travellers, I am sure you are right.

But the point remains, you cannot sanction people for what you think they may or may not be doing - fortunately, The Thought Police remain (largely!) a figment of Mr Orwell's imagination!
2 main questions.

1) on balance are their journeys to Syria suspicious?
2) if they are allowed back into the UK, would they be a danger to life in UK.

If the answer to BOTH is yes...then they should have their passports taken away and not allowed back into the UK.

/// According to Sky News, Turkish MP Mehmet Ali Ediboglu said last night: 'They are being held at a paramilitary outpost. Probably, they will be deported to their country tomorrow.' ///

Ah, so they are not as intelligent as our illegal immigrants, else they would have destroyed their British passports, so they couldn't be sent back to the UK.

^But then the Turks would be stuck with them. Why would they want them?
How can anyone know they wanted to burn their boats? Most likely they'd have wanted to come home at some stage.
I really dont know why they were stopped. Let them go and have a blast. I don't want to live near anyone who would kill over an imaginary friend. Scary as hell.

What's this thread turning into - Unsubstantiated-Assumptions-R-Us?
AOG, Illegal immigrants destroying their papers is understandable – but destroying a British passport? No, they’re not that daft.

Then perhaps we should do it for them, Naomi?
Can we legally stop British citizens retuning to the UK? We may be able to deal with them once they're back but I'm not sure we can refuse to take them back!
