Binge drinking is a vague term. Once having meaning, it's now applied to anyone who drinks more on a Saturday night than on other days/nights. Who entices binge drinking anyway ? Except maybe others who are intoxicated having already started. Going to fill the gaols up with them ? Any how are you going to get £15k from someone on benefits ?

No I know that but for some the word English or even the country England no longer exists.
So as to not to separate us in this multi ethnic, multi racial country of ours we are all lumped together i.e. The UK, Brits, Britain, or British.

It is those inciting binge-drinking ie Pub landlords, Club owners etc, that are libel for prosecution, not your 'benefit' receivers.
Regardless of that taking into account the high prices charged in these establishment, I wouldn't think that the often accused benefit receiver can afford those high prices.

If this French minister has said, "Young French people have been encouraged to drink to excess by British exchange students, living in France", then the headline would be valid.

Well, let's be honest here - in the UK Muslims, Chinese, Indians and black people simply don't do the binge drinking thing.
It's young white people.
Nothing wrong in that. As long as people stay safe, there's absolutely nothing wrong wth a binge now and then.
But we should not shy away from the fact that binge drinking simply isn't a cultural phenomenom that has swept the ethnic minority population of the UK.
It's not a criticism of white people - more an observation.
Would you agree there's a certain amount of truth in that?
I mean, I think we can agree that young Muslims don't binge drink...?

Gromit is quite correct, no new laws are required in this country. It is already an offence (and has been as long as I can remember) to serve alcohol to somebody who is drunk. However, most of the pubs I have been in have been guilty of this at some time or another. All that's needed is proper application of the existing laws (the penalty for which includes withdrawal or premises and/or personal licences).

"Back in my day" Pubs closed at 10.30 with only a handful of clubs allowed to have late licenses. We certainly didn't see young people spewing up in the gutter or, police being tied up in the early hours with drunken brawls.
