Come on Mr Milliband this is really scraping the barrel, does he really think people will stop around to pay the tax or that they wont find another way round it?
Given, it's not right, but surely the best way is to phase it out gradually, say but raising the amount they pay, removing a generation at a time from the exception etc?
//In the interview Mr Balls said: "I think if you abolished the whole status then probably it ends up costing Britain money because there will be some people who will then leave the country. "But I think we can be tougher and we should be and we will."//
so even Balls thinks it will cost us !!

when medical hospital training was shoe horned into 4 y - the stopped registrars were all fired ( contracts terminated ) and 15 000 returned to the Indian subcontinent. A silent exodus.... their green cards werent renewed s they had to get onto an aeroplane and go home
IN 2007 - the training scheme for junior doctors imploded - and whilst the London minister of health said the system was meant to work like that, The Oz and NZ health schemes told all the unemployed London graduates they had jobs for them there. ( My niece was one )
and that is why when you tune into Helicopter heroes you hear so many Brit accents saying they are there because there were no jobs at home
Oh QM apparently there are 4500 GP posts going begging this year - the ministry manpower planners got their figures wrong.
Junior doctors I know are not paid as much as non-doms

Bashing the rich has been a Left wing mantra ever since Marx wrote the book in London.
The super rich can afford tax advisors who are much cleverer than the people who produce the legislation, and Ed Balls isn't going to get massive amounts of money from them. No way!
They won't leave the UK, though, as it's a safe country in which they can enjoy an excellent lifestyle without interference from the state.

What milly ,Davy and the rest say has no bearing on what will actually happen as like before these fat cat polititions will ,would say anything to get or keep their fat incomes .Talking of living off the state these are prime examples .in all the years while the working person has got no increase of wages these people have been lining their pockets .they never suggest cutting their numbers but cut hospital staff hospital beds ,councils works ,schools .Who do these sponges think they are ,
As I understand it these non doms do pay VAT, council tax etc, plus the annual non-dom charge but what they don't pay is UK income tax on their overseas earnings. If they are foreign earnings I'm not sure how easy it would be to identify any income tax liability, especially if they have already had income tax deducted in the country in which their earnings arise
