I saw this on the news yesterday but I hadn't realised that this little lad was only 7 years old. According to the news, he asked for permission to ski alone. How on earth did his parents allow him to go skiing alone, in such a dangerous place ? What on earth were they thinking of ?

Ummmm....we skied in Canada......it's not difficult to ski together and I can't think of a time I wouldn't have kept a child in my sights.

I heard this too, Mikey but assumed he was a teenager.....
Seems he'd taken his skis off. Tragic. I wonder if this will get the same reaction as Madeline McCann. Similar circumstances.

Exactly what I did Gness, until I opened the papers this morning. many years ago I skied in Flaine, and its almost impossible to imagine letting such a young boy to ski alone. This kind of neglect pains me terribly...such a young age to die. He must have been terrified to realise that he was lost and to start trying to climb down the cliff.
how is this remotely similar to MM zacs?
Leaving a child alone.
Question Author
Zacs can speak for himself, but I would imagine that he had in mind the similarity of both children being left alone.

But for me the parents of this little boy were completely and utterly stupid, to allow him to be alone in such a dangerous place. I have been to many Alpine places in my time and they are not remotely suitable for leaving young children alone in. This tragedy was entirely avoidable.
I've never been skiing but how easy is it for a family to ski down side by side.

Yes, if you're at least on the same run, you can usually see them for miles.
Although...i have said this before i think, when we went as children, my stepsister (about 9?) took a wrong turn and ended up in the next village being fed whiskey by Frenchmen. But that's my dad's childcare for you.
Every parents worse nightmare. Bet the parents regret that decision to let him ski alone!
Sounds like they had too much confidence in his abilities.
Look like it ummmm. They now have to live with the heart ache .......
I just find it hard to write them off as neglectful parents.
Question Author
Pusskin....they will bitterly regret their decision for the rest of their lives. A completely avoidable tragedy, as I have said. An accident waiting to happen.

Ummm...what other word would you use then ?
Here's a picture of the boy who is said to have been a good skier. He was on a Blue run and I am surprised he got lost as this is an easy run for beginners and they are clearly marked. Looks as if dad wasn't with them on holiday but the boy asked his mum and she said yes. Terrible tragedy.

A tragedy, Mikey, like ladybirder says.
She made a dreadful mistake mikey but not neglectful I don't think. Stating the obvious but the poor woman will bitterly regret this for the rest of her life.
